Sort for Joy provides in-person decluttering and professional organizing services in Northern VA, Washington, D.C. and Howard, Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties in Maryland. Virtual decluttering and coaching sessions are also available for flexible, remote support.

Decluttering can feel overwhelming—especially when emotions, memories, or major life transitions are involved. At Sort for Joy, the process is designed to feel supportive, collaborative, and manageable from start to finish. There is no rushing, no judgment, and no pressure to do more than you’re ready for.

Every journey begins with a complimentary consultation. This is a relaxed conversation where we talk about your space, your goals, and what feels challenging right now. We’ll discuss whether in-person or virtual support is the best fit and answer any questions you may have.
This is also a time for you to get a feel for my approach and decide if it feels right for you.

After the consultation, we create a plan tailored to your needs, pace, and comfort level. Whether you want help with a single room, an entire home, or digital clutter, the process is customized to support both your space and your emotional well-being.
There’s no one-size-fits-all method—your plan reflects your life.

During our sessions, we work side by side to gently sort through items and decide what stays and what can go. I provide calm guidance, emotional support, and practical coaching throughout the process, helping you move forward without overwhelm.
You are always in control of decisions. My role is to support—not pressure—you.

As items are released, I help guide responsible next steps. This may include identifying targeted donation resources, coordinating donation pickups, or assisting with women’s and children’s clothing consignment when appropriate.
The goal is to help items leave your space thoughtfully and completely.

Once decluttering is complete, we organize the items you’ve chosen to keep into functional, easy-to-maintain systems. This includes thoughtful placement, storage solutions, and simple organization strategies that support your daily routines.
We focus on systems that feel natural—so your space stays organized long after our sessions end.

Some clients prefer continued support through additional sessions, virtual check-ins, or help with digital decluttering. Ongoing support is always optional and tailored to what feels helpful for you.
